‘Black Mirror’ – Inspired Dating App Becomes A Reality

A dating app inspired by the episode “Hang The DJ” will let “Black Mirror” fans check the life expectancy of their relationships.

It’s pretty much universally agreed upon that “Hang The DJ” was the strongest episode of Black Mirror’s latest season. While the episode featured an achingly cute, “San Junipero”-ish romance, it also included the debut of a crazy dating app that you probably assumed was way too intense to actually be true. As it turns out, you were only sort of right.

Dating In Black Mirror's "Hang The DJ"

In episode four of the sci-fi series’ fourth season, romantic hopefuls are set up on blind dates by a super high-tech algorithm. The relationship could last ten minutes or ten years: the couple can find out by checking their expiry date. All of the relationships, even the super short ones, are meant to enhance the compatibility algorithm, until the “System” finds your perfect match.

Now, thanks to Netflix, you too can easily discover the fate of your current love life, whether you’re on your second date or your fifth anniversary, with the click of a button. Happy belated Valentine’s Day, everybody.

By visiting this website, you can get a link to send to your partner, and simultaneously click a button to find out how long your relationship will last. Of course, just like on Black Mirror, you have to check the expiry date at the same time, or else suffer the consequences (specifically your timeline dwindling down to minutes).

Of all the Black Mirror-inspired tech we could possibly get in 2018 reality, this app is probably the least scary, so let's be grateful.
