I’m not sure what the Venn diagram of Doctor Who fans and Wimbledon fanatics would look like, but you’ll find me firmly in the centre … even more now that the BBC is using the Gentlemen’s Final of Wimbledon for some big news.
We’ll learn the identity of The 13th Doctor!
A surprise announcement dropped on the official Doctor Who Facebook page has left the Whovian world in a tizzy.
Yes, it’s true. The BBC will be making the official announcement of who will be playing The 13th Doctor following the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Final on Sunday, 16 July.
It’s almost like a trick to make Doctor Who fans who don’t like sports tune in to the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s final ANYWAY. I mean, I can’t even tell you what time to watch because tennis matches vary hugely in length! In 1881 (okay, that was a looooong time ago, I’ll grant you), the Gentlemen’s Final only lasted 36 minutes. The shortest ever Wimbledon match was in 1969 and was over in 20 minutes flat.
Then again, in 2010, Wimbledon saw an epic 11 hour, 6 minute match.
All this is to say that I guess our eyes will have to be glued to the sport if we want to be the first to see the face of The 13th Doctor.
