Halloween is almost here, which means it’s time for everyone's favorite fall film: It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! In honor of the 50th anniversary, we've chosen our Pop 5 favorite moments from the holiday classic.
Favorite "Great Pumpkin" Moments:
Every year, Linus writes a letter to the Great Pumpkin to convey his sincerity in hopes that the he will visit. Everyone makes fun of him and thinks he’s a blockhead for sitting in a pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin to appear, but, even after everyone abandons him and the Great Pumpkin doesn’t show up, Linus still believes that next year will be different.
“The Great Pumpkin will appear and I’ll be waiting for him!” -- Keep on believing Linus!
"I got a rock."
The Peanuts gang (except for Linus and Sally) go trick-or-treating together. While all of Charlie Brown’s friends receive treats, Charlie Brown receives a rock at every single house. It’s heartbreaking that he was tricked at every house. Let’s hope that one of his friends shared their candy with him.
Sally adores her Sweet Baboo and even misses out on what would be her first time trick-or-treating to wait for the Great Pumpkin with Linus. There’s a moment where Linus thinks the Great Pumpkin shows up, but it's Snoopy. Linus faints, and, when he comes to, Sally flips out. She’s furious that she missed out on trick-or-treating and demands restitution. Note to Linus: don't ever come between Sally and her candy again.
Lucy Brings Linus Home
Saying that Lucy is annoyed with Linus’ Great Pumpkin obsession is an understatement. Lucy belittles her brother endlessly, but she wakes up in the middle of the night to bring him home. He’s shivering in the pumpkin patch with his blanket, and she even tucks him into bed after getting him home. Probably her sweetest moment ever. Lucy also gets bonus points for getting him candy while trick-or-treating.
The Halloween Invitation
Charlie Brown receives an invitation to Violet’s Halloween party. It’s the first invitation he’s ever received, and he’s so happy that he starts dancing. Let’s ignore how Lucy said his invite was a mistake and focus on Charlie Brown having a joyful moment.
