Agent Carter’s Closet: Better Angels

Add some vintage flair to your wardrobe with these affordable outfits inspired by this week’s episode of Marvel’s Agent Carter.

Welcome back to Agent Carter’s Closet, a weekly feature to help bring Peggy Carter’s unique vintage style into your wardrobe. We take the incredible costumes in each episode and translate them into outfits you can wear every day. The clothes featured in this article are all off-the-rack, available online in a wide range of sizes and at a reasonable price.

In this edition, we’re taking a look at the fantastic outfits featured in the latest episode, Better Angels. There were so many wardrobe changes for Peggy in this episode that it nearly made my heart stop! Of course, we must mention the incredible talent of the costume design team  led by the uber-talented Giovanna Melton. Her team continues to go above and beyond with their gorgeous (and hard to replicate) designs.

We’re going to focus on two of my favorite outfits; Peggy’s morning investigation outfit and the ensemble she wore to crash the Arena Club. So, first we’re going to dive right in to Peggy’s early morning investigation outfit. She arrives with Chief Sousa at Dr. Wilkes’s house to further investigate the nefarious Isodyne Energy. Her dress is a gorgeous two-tone blue and green with some vintage, tear drop cut-out pumps and her signature red sunglasses. The dress is another testament to the talented costume department – it’s completely unique and all Peggy Carter.

For our version, I had to make a bit of a compromise because Peggy’s dress is likely one-of-a-kind. Instead, I focused on the cut of the dress, the shape of the skirt and the color combination. I found this navy blue Miusol Retro Cap Sleeve dress with a mermaid tail skirt on Amazon. And the amazing part is that it’s on sale right now for 70% off and it will only run you $12.00! The belt is a women’s faux leather and elastic waist cinch in green for only $9.00, also available on Amazon. The shoes are called The Zest Is History and feature that lovely teardrop cut-out pattern and you can get them at ModCloth for $45.00. The pumps are also available in five other colors. The sunglasses are the closest I have found yet to what Peggy wears in the show. I found them on a site called AliExpress and they will only cost $7.

Next, we have Peggy crashing the all-white-male Arena Club with the help of our beloved Howard Stark and Mr. Jarvis. For this occasion, she was wearing a lovely deep red cocktail dress with a pink and ivory, deco-inspired dandelion pattern and matching red ankle strap pumps.

Finding a pattern similar to the one Peggy wore proved to be impossible for a pre-made item so, again, I just focused on the style and shape of the dress.

Our red dress has a high waist and sweetheart neckline with short sleeves and you can find it on Amazon for $21. The pumps are the burgundy version of the Zest Is History pump we used on the previous outfit. You can get them at ModCloth for $45. Peggy’s pearl button stud earrings I found at Target and they are actually a set of three. In addition to the pearls, you get a set of plain crystal studs and single pearl studs. The entire set is only $8. The peony flower I chose because of how the color looked with the dress and the fact that it’s likely flammable…because you might need to light some stuff up when you invade that club – it costs $9 at Amazon. I found the silver beaded clutch handbag at AliExpress for $18. And last, but not least, no agent can infiltrate a club without a bug. I found a nicely discreet listening device for you to plant under a conference table at Amazon for $40.

I hope you’re inspired to put a little Peggy in your wardrobe! I’ll be back next week with outfits inspired by the next episode, Smoke And Mirrors. Be sure to tune in to ABC Tuesday at 9/8c for an all new episode of Marvel’s Agent Carter!
