A high-rise fire in New York City on January 5th took the life of playwright Daniel James McClung. At the time of the fire, McClung had recently married his boyfriend, Michael Cohen.
McClung lost his life when his husband and he tried to get out of their high-rise apartment. Reports from the fire department feel that faulty wiring caused the fire.
A tribute for the fallen playwright called Always for Daniel will celebrate McClung’s life on June 2nd. Cohen was also injured trying to escape the high-rise fire.
The event was created by Cohen’s friend, Michael Zahler, and will have music from the likes of Judy Garland and Ella Fitzgerald. Always for Daniel proceeds will benefit the Muhlenberg College Theater and Dance program.
