Great news for all of us movie-musical lovers out there! The Last Five Years, a film adaptation of the 2002 off-Broadway musical of the same name has been slated for a 2015 Valentine’s Day wide release.
And get this, it’ll star Pitch Perfect‘s Anna Kendrick, and Jeremy Jordan of TV-series musical Smash, who also happens to be the original lead star of Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Newsies!
The movie is set to have its world premier tonight (Sept. 7) at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The Last Five Years tells the story of a five year relationship between a struggling actress Cathy Hiatt (Kendrick) and up and coming writer Jamie Wellerstein (Jordan). Similar to the stage musical, Cathy’s story will be told in reverse chronological order, beginning with the end of their marriage leading up to the point they first met, while Jamie’s would begin at the start of their relationship and then forward towards their break-up.
Academy Award nominee for best screenplay, Richard LaGravenese directed the movie and wrote the script. It will be distributed by Radius-TWC.
