Marvel has released covers for their December solicitations, and there are more than a few familiar faces for their UK readers on the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #5.
Armando Iannucci, better known as the genius mind behind The Thick Of It and its American counterpart, Veep, was not alone in noticing some of his creations appearing on the comic’s cover. In the shot are Peter Capaldi (Malcolm Tucker), Chris Addison (Ollie Reeder), Joanna Scanlon (Terri Coverley), James Smith (Glenn Cullen), Paul Higgins (Jamie), and Polly Kemp (Robyn Murdoch).
Anyone know why Thick of It cast are in recent Spiderman issue? As a lifelong Marvel fan I’m delighted. And curious. pic.twitter.com/cc9LeFgx8e

The answer, it seems, is nothing more than a little bit of fanboying on the part of ASM writer, Dan Slott. A huge Doctor Who fan — Peter Capaldi is currently serving as the 12th Doctor — Slott started binging on The Thick of It following the announcement of Capaldi’s participation in the show:
After watching these Capaldi clips, now I REALLY want to see “The Thick Of It.” How do I watch the show in the US? It’s not on Netflix. 🙁

It’s now two years later, and Slott (with help from artist Alex Ross) has combined his loves, but what did Iannucci think when all was explained to him?
Ah. Well if Marvel are up for a Thick Of It/ Spiderman crossover, I’m happy to help. https://t.co/vL5kkhkDmD

If this crossover doesn’t come to fruition, it might be the one thing that will make me resort to fanfiction. Would you like to see Iannucci’s characters appear in Amazing Spider-Man?
