Armani Jackson takes back his power in “She Won’t Stop”

“I had the idea to make a high energy anthem driven song with a rap aspect…”

Cloud hop meets alt R&B artist and acclaimed actor Armani Jackson has released his latest single, “She Won’t Stop” and the song delivers the important message about standing up to jealous people from your past who partake in gossip and shaming. The artist, who has already made a big splash for himself in film and television, has starred alongside Vin Diesel in The Last Witch Hunter, Lionsgate’s Cooties, and is playing the character of “Joey” in the TBS/HBO Max series Chad. After releasing a series of infectious singles over the past year and wowing his fanbase with his undeniable musical talent, the rising star is determined more than ever to make his mark by delivering catchy, hook-driven songs with an often underlying, valuable message.

In “She Won’t Stop,” Armani tells the narrative of someone who is being disrespected, further adding to the ongoing pressures of daily life. Filled with catchy lyrics and a unique blend of melodic hip hop and pop-driven sounds, the song is as innovative as it is relatable, making it a must hear for anyone who has ever experienced haters in their life. PopWrapped caught up with him to find out more about the meaning and process behind his new single, what it’s like working with his sister and singer songwriter Talia Jackson and what’s next on his bucket list.

What was the song-writing process like for “She Won’t Stop”?

When writing “She Won’t Stop”, I wanted to create a sort of anthem within the song to make it easier for people to immediately sing along and then fill it in with bars about literally whatever was getting on my nerves. The line “My coffee’s tasting funny, every time I grab my phone I gotta pay somebody” was written in the studio during recording because the coffee I ordered was particularly bad that day, and I had a lot of people I had to pay on venmo simultaneously. I wanted to have fun with this song lyrically and keep things fresh.

The single could be seen as a track about how bullies can negatively affect one’s mental health. How do you handle bullies?

I wouldn’t say “She Won’t Stop” is about bullying but more about the feeling of somebody you no longer associate with still talking bad on your name and making it all look like your fault. I wanted to make a song for people in that situation to gain some power back in the form of music.

Was there a certain sound you were trying to achieve on the track?

I had the idea to make a high energy anthem driven song with a rap aspect to fill in the blanks while keeping it fun and playful and I’d say I achieved exactly that with “She Won’t Stop.”

How does working with The Morgue help shape your sound?

Working with The Morgue has literally been the most amazing thing for me. The first song we made together was “Haunted.” They know exactly what I want track wise and we always have the same musical intuition, so things flow really smoothly in the studio. They help me find my sound more and more every day and I want to stay working with them in my future.

You collaborate with your sister Talia Jackson, another prolific song-writer. How do you help each other in your musical process?

Me and my sister always go to each other’s studio sessions whether or not we are both making a song. We love giving input and helping each other because we both have the same exact likings for specific musical sounds and themes. We have quite a few unreleased songs we’ve made together as well and plan on making many, many more as time goes on.

As well as being a singer, you’re a talented, established actor. How do you think that side of your life and career helps when it comes to writing songs, if it does at all?

Acting definitely helps when it comes to song-writing and singing. Being an actor forces you to convey emotion, so when it came to singing for me, the emotional aspect was naturally easier for me to get into because I was already very familiar with showing it.

Finally then, what’s next for you? Any new music or projects you can tease?

First off, more music is next. I have more unreleased finished songs than I can count and I really want everyone to hear them. The show I’m on Chad got picked up for a second season so that’s also next. I just filmed a cool independent movie as well and there are many other acting projects that I am up for which is exciting!
