Artist Adds New Geeky Life To Thrift Store Paintings

Artist David Irvine and his company The Gnarled Branch add new geeky life to old thrift-store paintings.

David Irvine is a very talented artist, who specializes in what he calls “Re-Directed Art“. The idea is simple and the results are impressive. Irvine searches for existing, unwanted paintings at thrift stores and yard sales, and adds his own unique touch to give the art a new look, and new popularity. The elements he adds range from characters of his own design, pop culture icons, or unusual imagery. Once added, he sells the originals online through his Etsy store. Prints of each piece are also sold through Society6 and Redbubble.

Some of the pop culture characters and icons added to the unwanted works include those from the Star Wars universe, Batman, Doctor Who, the twins from The Shining, and even rubber ducks. Irvine also accepts commissions, and can even work on a pre-owned painting if the customer is local.

Check out the Instagram feed for his company, The Gnarled Branch, for hundreds of samples of his work. He also offers original art, gothic-inspired furniture, and sculptures.
