Tony-award winner, Ben Platt and Glee star Naya Rivera are both vying for a role in Steven Spielberg's upcoming remake of classic movie musical West Side Story. Unlike other actors whose audition tapes seldom see the light of day, both stars have decided to publicly share their effort at getting a part.
No, they did not audition together, they just coincidentally decided to post their auditions in their social media accounts within days of each other. Ben Platt was the first one to do so, when he posted a video of himself singing 'Maria' from West Side Story on March 15. The next day, he shared it on his twitter account, wherein he explained why he decided to share his audition to the public. "Actors spend lots of time making tapes that never see the light of day- usually embarrassing, poorly shot ones. This one I liked (it’s still poorly shot) so I’m sharing it- I encourage fellow actors to do the same so long as the material is public stuff". he wrote.

I'm not sure if Naya read Ben's twitter and that his "encouragement for fellow actors to do the same" prompted her to follow suit. Regardless afterwards Naya went to her Instagram account and posted a video of her singing another iconic West Side Story song "America". It is a number that Rivera has performed before in her hit musical tv show Glee and so she may have a strong personal connection to it.
Good luck to both actors! Hopefully you'll both get a part and end up working together, soon!
