Ben Whishaw Expresses Love And Admiration In His Coming Out Experience

Ben Whishaw explains how his coming out to the world was ‘suprisingly lovely’.

Ben Whishaw, who plays Q in Skyfall, unexpectedly stole the hearts of most everyone who watched the film, myself included. Now Whishaw is coming clean about his decision to come out last year in an interview with The Sunday Times. Whishaw states, in regards to everyone’s reactions, that “everyone was surprisingly lovely. I hadn’t anticipated that they would be, but they were.” Whishaw further elaborated, “It takes courage to come out and people have to do it in their own time.”

“It’s hard to have a conversation with people you’ve known your whole life about a very intimate thing. It’s massively weighted with all sorts of stuff; whatever the wider world is saying…it’s an intimate and difficult conversation for most people,” Whishaw explains, “There is so much tension around doing something like that. I applaud everyone who does it.”

And I applaud Ben Whishaw for gathering the strength to express himself to the world regardless of whatever criticism or backlash he would have had to face. And furthermore, I applaud him stating that everyone “comes out” at their own time and pace, which is just wonderful.

Whishaw will next be seen in Lilting; an emotional drama in which Whishaw plays Richard, a gay man that just lost his boyfriend and is now struggling to reveal the truth of his sexuality to his deceased lover’s mother.
