Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt first met on the set of 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith and have been a couple ever since. Nine years later, the now newly-married stars will join forces in a film again! The new movie is called By The Sea and the first photos from it have now been revealed.
The film finds a former dancer, Vanessa (Jolie), and an American writer, Roland (Pitt), in France during the 1970s. The couple is taking a trip to the countryside and their marriage seems to be falling apart. However, a visit to a small, seaside town changes everything, as they manage to actually escape from everyday life, meet new people and all. As stories are shared with their new friends, they gain a new perspective on each other and on life. Jolie said of the film:
“I chose to set By the Sea in the 1970s, not only because it is a colorful and alluring era, but because it removes many of the distractions of contemporary life and allows the focus to remain squarely on the emotions that the characters experience in their journey.”
Jolie wrote the screenplay herself, while she will also be getting direction and production credits for this one. Pitt will also be getting production credits.
Other actors surrounding the couple’s performance are Niels Arestrup and Richard Bohringer. The shooting for the film started in Malta on September 8 and will go on through mid-November. Among others, editor Patricia Rommel, production designer Jon Hutman, costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, as well as executive producers Chris Brigham, Holly Goline and Michael Vieira, are responsible for the movie.
The upcoming film is followed by a line from Emily Dickinson’s poem of the same title: “But no man moved me till the tide / Went past my simple shoe /And past my apron and my belt / And past my bodice too / And made as he would eat me up / As wholly as a dew…”
By The Sea will come out via Universal Pictures, with a release date yet to be announced. Take a look at the first photos from the movie below:
