Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? Well, according to the latest news, the answer is Netflix! A new animated series is coming soon!

Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? Well, if the latest news is to be believed, the answer may very well be Netflix!

This new animated series, from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and DHX Media, will have The Batman’s Duane Capizzi at the helm, with CJ Kettler and Caroline Fraser on as producers. Netflix will release 20 episodes, each 22 minutes long, and unlike previous installments in the Carmen Sandiego franchise, this series will not only showcase her many adventures, but will go into who she is, her backstory, and what made her the globetrotting thief we all know and love. The announcement came with teaser art to showcase the mysterious lead character in all her glory.

The role of Carmen herself will be played by Jane The Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez. Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things will be assuming the role of the player, an unseen character that will act as “Carmen’s chief accomplice and friend.”

The Carmen Sandiego franchise began in 1985 with the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego video game. Since then, the master thief has gone on to star in video games, TV shows, books, table top games and comics. The franchise has won over 90 awards, including 12 Software Publishers Association Excellence Awards for Best Education Programs and 7 Parents’ Choice Awards.

The Netflix series is expected to hit Netflix in 2019.
