Carol Burnett Honored At SAG Awards

Legendary actress and comedian Carol Burnett was honored at the SAG Awards on Sunday night, thanking her for making us laugh for 50 years.

Carol Burnett has spent many years on screen making us laugh.  On Saturday night, at the SAG Awards, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler honored Carol Burnett with the Lifetime Award.  The award couldn’t been given by a better pair of female comedians.

Tina Fey began the award presenation by pointing out how long Carol Burnett has been making us laugh.  Carol Burnett has been on the screen for fifty years and we’ve loved every minute.  Burnett had her own comedy show called The Burnett Show and she was one of the best guest stars featured on Magnum PI.  Fey pointed out how important The Carol Burnett Show was by saying:

It was important for us to see that Carol was also the boss.  It was her show. And that implanted in our brains and it made us dream of a life where we could get paid to make comedy with our friends, but also be their boss.

Burnett gratefully accepted the award that she so well deserved.  One of the things she said was:

In essence, we mounted a musical comedy review every week and, oh God, did we have fun. And at first, the network didn’t want me to do one, they tried to talk me into doing a half hour comedy called Here’s Agnes. Can you picture it? I can just see it. But I had a terrific and unheard-of contract that said that all I had to do was push the button and the network would have to give me 30, one-hour variety shows. And I told them that’s what I wanted to do.

Thank you, Carol Burnett for everything you’ve done.  We’ve been laughing for a long time and you made a real impact on the world for female comedians.  Watch below.  What was your favorite Carol Burnett moment throughout her career?  Sound off in the comments.
