Marg Helgenberger is the most recent actress in a long line of CSI cast members that have left and come back.
The 54 year old, who played CSI Catherine Willow from 2000 to 2012, will be returning for the show’s 300th episode. On the 20th of August, Marg Helgenberger announced her return via Twitter: “Very excited to see my pals @CSI_CBS for the 300th!” mentioning cast members David Berman and Elisabeth Harnois.
When Helgenberger left the show in January 2012, she was asked by the Associated Press if she would consider returning to the show for special episodes. She responded: “Absolutely… that was one of the reasons why it was easier for me to leave the show because the producers said to me practically every day the door is wide open.“
The show’s executive producer, Don McGill, told TV Line, “We will flash back 14 years to seminal moments that show Catherine, Nick (George Eads), Sara (Jorja Fox), Greg (Eric Szmanda) and Ecklie (Marc Vann) as they were, [and how that] informed the evolution of the characters now.” He went on to describe the show as “fun… very emotional.”
CSI, which will be beginning its 14th season in September, is the last standing series from the CSI franchise with its Miami and New York counterparts being cancelled in 2012 and 2013.
Marg Helgenberger, who received both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her role, will be returning to the Las Vegas Crime Lab on the 23rd of October this year.
