This past Tuesday, for the first time in over a year, Charlene Kaye returned to Rockwood Music Hall in Manhattan’s Lower East Side to sample some new material that she’s been working on.

Charlene Kaye has been touring the country pretty consistently since she joined her friends in Team Starkid on their SPACE tour in November of 2011 both on her own and then again with Starkid on Apocalyptour during the spring of 2012. She announced at the end of her last tour a couple of months ago that she would be taking the summer off from performing to write new music to follow her May release, Animal Love.
The show on Tuesday night was a chance for Kaye to get feedback on the music she’s been working on, as well as let loose and have a smaller, intimate show without a set list.  She performed five new songs as well as an Aretha Franklin cover (Ain’t No Way)

The audience were also treated to  a stripped down, ballad version of Skin & Bones from her first album, Things I Will Need in the Past.

After the performance, Charlene revealed that she may be doing a few more of these shows throughout the summer to continue to fine tune the new music.
