Ahoy me hearties! Can’t ride the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland? Have no fear; a new trailer is here to give you your Pirates fix. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) recently released its newest trailer, and with plenty of swashbuckling action and comical quips, we can’t say we aren’t excited for this latest installment! The trailer features Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow much more prominently than the last two previews we’ve seen, and the title alone sends chills down our spines, hearkening back to the classic theme park ride.

The last time we saw Jack Sparrow and the Pirates franchise on screen was with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) which was met with mostly lukewarm to negative reviews, although it does have its good points. Stranger Tides was the first standalone Pirates film, and while this upcoming film is rumored to be the same, we know that the character of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) is back, so it might not be without some regard to the original three movies of the series. Will Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann be mentioned? Along with an explanation for her absence in the story? Interestingly, we did not see Will Turner in this trailer, even though we caught a brief glimpse of him in the Super Bowl teaser last month. Brenton Thwaites looks to be the new Will Turner type character here, with Kaya Scodelario looking to be like the new Elizabeth Swann type character. Hopefully it won’t just be a rehash of The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), although the scene where Thwaites is helping to rescue Scodelario looks quite familiar to scenes we have seen before in this franchise.

Noticeable to some and not so noticeable to others, towards the end of this trailer, we see the words, “The Final Adventure.” Does this mean that this indeed will be the last film? It certainly seems the case. Regardless of what you think of the Pirates franchise now, it will be sad to see it go completely. But money might talk, and as of right now, IMDb (the Internet Movie Database) does list Pirates of the Caribbean 6 as being in development. If the pattern of at least one teaser and two theatrical trailers continues, then we should be seeing one more trailer for what is maybe a higher anticipated film than before. The familiar theme music here also never fails to get me pumped.
