Demi Lovato last released a studio album two years ago, even though it still seems like yesterday. With the songstress all prepared and ready to kick off her new era and a single cover that finds her looking all kinds of gorgeous, she has now released her brand-new single, titled “Cool For The Summer”, and it sounds like nothing she’s done before.
The Max Martin-crafted tune is an instant synth-pop number, but at the same time it manages to sound different from what’s considered radio-friendly nowadays. The song finds Demi Lovato leaving her Kelly Clarkson-esque sound behind to get a bit naughty; even though she sounds like a complete stranger in the piano-led entrance for a moment, it’s 100% her once the riffs kick in for the chorus. The stomping beat leads the melody from start to finish and provides the perfect production to get a bit foolish on. “Cool For The Summer” ends up the jam-worthy, light-hearted electro-pop cut no one expected it to be, combining pure pop catchiness à la Katy Perry with some more indie-ish, Icona Pop kind of vibes.
“Cool For The Summer” serves as the very first single to be lifted from the songstress’ forthcoming, as-yet-untitled fifth studio album. Demi Lovato is expected to drop the record later this year, with the music video for the song expected rather soon. The album will be a follow-up to 2013′s self-titled DEMI, which spawned the hit singles “Heart Attack”, “Made In The USA”, “Neon Lights” and “Really Don’t Care”.
