The first trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast has dropped, and we are beyond excited!
The trailer begins by showing us the Prince’s castle — how it was before and how it is now. Pre- and post-curse, if you will. The castle’s rooms have lost their happy glow, and the painting on the wall has been slashed — and we all know by whom.
Then, the front door opens, and we hear Cogsworth (Ian McKellen) and Lumiere (Ewan McGregor) wondering if she is the one who has come to break the spell that has been put on their master (and them) by the disguised enchantress all those years ago — n
ot in as many words, but if you have seen the original Disney animated film, a stage performance, or read the original tale, you will know what we’re talking about.
The final part of the trailer shows the Prince’s — now the Beast’s — rose at the center of the screen, encased in the iconic bell jar. Then we see her: Emma Watson as Belle. She touches the jar with only a few fingers, staring at the rose in wonder.
Then the telltale melody of “Beauty and the Beast” starts playing, and the trailer fades to black.
The whole thing gives us happy chills of anticipation!

Emma Watson took to her Facebook page as soon as she learned about her new role in January 2015: “My six-year-old self is on the ceiling, heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it.”
Watson says the original Disney animated film was “such a big part of her growing up,” and she is thrilled to be a part of its live-action remake.
Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) will direct the feature. The screenplay has been written by Watson’s former director, Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower).
Emma Watson’s Belle is joined by Dan Stevens as the Beast, Ian McKellen as Cosgworth, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, and Luke Evans as Gaston. They are also joined by Josh Gad, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kevin Kline, and Audra McDonald.
Beauty and the Beast will join the list of Disney’s live-action remakes, alongside Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book. Watson and Stevens will dance onto our theater screens March 17, 2017.
