Furious 7 is not only honoring Paul Walker in multiple ways, it’s also setting records less than a month after its highly-anticipated release.
The film’s soundtrack accelerated to the #1 spot on Billboard’s album chart this week, while Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” featuring Charlie Puth, a song made in memory of Walker, rose from #10 to top the Hot 100.
This is the first soundtrack to hit #1 at the same time as one of its singles since Eminem’s autobiographical movie 8 Mile shared chart time with “Lose Yourself” back in 2003.
“See You Again” also knocked “Uptown Funk” from its reign. Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars held strong with the top single for nearly 15 weeks straight until “See You Again” sped by it.
Furious 7 has seen massive success, grossing $800 million in just two weeks and leaving box office expectations in the dust. Projections for the coming weekend expect the latest in the Fast franchise to fall somewhere between $950 and $1 billion by Sunday’s end.
If that rings true, Furious 7 will fall just behind The Avengers as the second-fastest movie to reach the billion dollar mark at the box office.
