Well it worked beautifully for The Office – why not Broadchurch? The American remake of the ITV hit, set to be called Gracepoint, is already in the works and featuring some familiar names.  Gangster Squad‘s Michael Pena is the latest of the cast to be announced, joining Breaking Bad‘s Anna Gunn and British series regular David Tennant.

The new series is rumored to be almost identical to its British predecessor, aside from some interesting aspects the producers have decided to change.  Like Broadchurch, Gracepoint will focus on the murder of a young boy named Danny.

Tennant will star as the chief investigator on the case, however his name has changed – along with another noticeable detail.  Emmett Carver, as he will now be called, is American, and therefore must have an appropriate accent.  In order to prepare for this change, Tennant reveals he has been studying with an accent coach, via Skype.

Pena will portray the father of young Danny, a man who may be concealing a terrible secret.  Previously having appeared in Crash, the 37-year-old actor’s casting in the series should prove interesting in the shift from the UK to Gracepoint‘s California setting.

Ironically, the US remake will actually be filmed in British Columbia, like so many series on American television. It seems, however, as though producers of Gracepoint are intent on making a series very much American in its depiction and portrayal of characters.  If they’re anything like the folks at Dunder Mifflin, the cast of Gracepoint will not disappoint audiences on either side of the Atlantic.
