The Fall, the hit crime drama set in Northern Ireland, is set to extend its series two run by one episode. It first premiered last year on May 12 in Ireland and May 13 in the UK. Due to its success, both critically and with audiences, by May 27 it had already been renewed for a second season.

Last October, cast member Emmett J Scanlan, who plays Glen Martin, confirmed via his Twitter that shooting for the second series would begin in February 2014. It has now been confirmed by the Belfast Telegraph that six new episodes are due to be shot in Belfast next month.

Originally, the filming was planned to begin this month, however Gillian Anderson, former star of The X Files, and on-screen serial killer Jamie Dornan, both had other commitments. Anderson, who stars as the British DSI Stella Gibson, has been in Toronto shooting the NBC drama Hannibal. Meanwhile, her co-star, Dornan has been on the other side of the country tying up filming for the highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey movie in Vancouver.

The filming is set to run for four months, and expects to see the return of several cast members alongside Anderson and Dornan, such as Bronagh Waugh, Gerard McCarthy, Niamh McGrady, Archie Panjabi, as well as the previously mentioned Emmett Scanlan.

While no date has been set, the series is expected return to BBC Two in the UK later this year. The viewers in the US, the first series is currently available on Netflix.
