Golden Globes 2015: Who To Look For On The Red Carpet

Let’s be honest, some of us don’t REALLY care all that much about the actual Golden Globes winners. But the fashion is a different story.

The Golden Globes are nearly here and speculation about the winners and losers is high. And while I admire the dedication of those journalists who have seen every nominated piece, I simply don’t ever find myself up-to-date with critically acclaimed films. I’m mainly tuning in for the television categories and the fashion.

We’re going to take a look at last year’s fashions and decide who we think will blow us away and who needs to find redemption from last year’s blunders.

Those In Need of Redemption:

Tina Fey, Carolina Herrera Tina Fey, Carolina Herrera

Tina Fey:

Tina will be hosting this year’s celebration alongside her bestie, Amy Poehler. Tina has been slaying on the red carpet in recent years, but she fell way flat in this unflattering and garish Herrera gown. I suppose I’ve just come to expect more from her.

Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Dior Couture Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Dior Couture

Jennifer Lawrence:

Okay, I know. Everyone loves Jennifer Lawrence. But love her or think she’s terribly overrated, no one can deny the disaster that was this dress. She looks like a tampon mixed with Ariel after she reaches land and covers up with an old ship sail. Just, no.

Julia Roberts, Dolce and Gabbana Julia Roberts, Dolce and Gabbana

Julia Roberts:

I honestly don’t even know what to say about this one. While I do believe that Julia was robbed of a nomination for her role in the mindblowingly powerful The Normal Heart, somebody really should have robbed her of this look. The Dolce gown would have been fine alone, albeit a bit boring; but that ridiculous collared shirt? Girl, you know better than that!

Zoe Saldana, Bottega Veneta Zoe Saldana, Bottega Veneta

Zoe Saldana:

Nope. From start to finish, this entire look is a mess.

Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Rani Zakhem Couture Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Rani Zakhem Couture

Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting:

I am not sure what’s happening here, but this gown reminds me of a Thomas Kinkade painting. Enough said.

On The Cusp:

Lena Dunham, Zac Posen Lena Dunham, Zac Posen

Lena Dunham:

Okay, this may be a controversial choice, but hear me out. Lena has a long history of choosing just absolutely ridiculous gowns. While this Zac Posen may not be the best we saw last year, it is a VAST improvement over some of Lena’s other looks. Plus, I love that she just does not GAF and wears what she wants.

Anticipation Station:

Olivia Wilde, Gucci Olivia Wilde, Gucci

Olivia Wilde:

Look at this goddess. She owned this dress and graced the carpet with a perfectly styled bump in tow. From top to bottom, this look was perfection. Which is basically par for the course for Wilde at this point.

Michelle Dockery, Oscar De La Renta Michelle Dockery, Oscar De La Renta

Michelle Dockery:

Is it me, or does Dockery always look like she’s ready for tea at Downton? I love the cut of this dress, and I love that she paired the dainty dress with bold, red lips. This woman is class all the way and is always a treat on the red carpet.

Lupita Nyong’o, Ralph Lauren Lupita Nyong’o, Ralph Lauren

Lupita Nyong’o:

I am a card-carrying member of the Lupita Nyong’o fan club. I think she’s brilliant, immensely talented and a spectacular human being in general. A true role model. And, on top of that, I think her style is edgy, bold, chic and classic all harmoniously meshed together in one petite package. Perfection.

Kerry Washington, Balenciaga Kerry Washington, Balenciaga

Kerry Washington:

Of course as a full-fledged Gladiator I had to give a shoutout to my Empress. Kerry Washington also had a flawlessly styled bump at last year’s Globes, and is near perfection in almost all that she does. Just call her Mary Poppins, as she’s practically perfect in every way.

Kate Beckinsale, Zuhair Murad Kate Beckinsale, Zuhair Murad

Kate Beckinsale:

Kate may have the best record when it comes to the running fashion scorecard of any celebrity out there. This woman always looks breathtaking. She landed the best stylist in the business because she always slightly pushes the envelope and yet still always pulls the entire look off without fail. Ugh, no fair.

Allison Williams, Alexander McQueen Allison Williams, Alexander McQueen

Allison Williams:

Williams is slowly but surely making a name for herself in the world of fashion. She gets better with every event and last year’s Globes were no exception. This Alexander McQueen was different from anything else on the carpet that night and was all the more stunning for it.

Mila Kunis, Gucci Mila Kunis, Gucci

Mila Kunis:

New mama Mila Kunis could wear a potato sack and look gorgeous. Hopefully she doesn’t do that this year, but I do look forward to seeing her rock whatever look she chooses on the red carpet on Sunday.

Reece Witherspoon, Calvin Klein Reece Witherspoon, Calvin Klein

Reece Witherspoon:

I just love Reece Witherspoon. Her look may be on the safe side, but she stays classic without falling into that boring Jennifer Aniston territory. She’s not going to win any awards for her fashion risk-taking, but she’ll still look damn good with her classic lines and girl-next-door good looks.

Amy Poehler, Stella McCartney Amy Poehler, Stella McCartney

Amy Poehler:

This year’s co-host looked classy, sexy and just downright gorgeous at last year’s Globes. With the myriad costume changes hostesses always go through, we’re sure to see some incredible looks from Poehler this year.

Margot Robbie, Gucci Margot Robbie, Gucci

Margot Robbie:

Robbie was my hands down favorite last year. She took the red carpet by storm with this exquisite Gucci gown and styled to perfection from head-to-toe. And her fashion storm didn’t end there, as she continued to blow us away all through awards season. I cannot wait to see what she brings to the table on Sunday.

And that’s my list, PopWrappers! Do you agree with my choices? Be sure to vote in our poll below and let us know who you think is most in need of redemption and who you’re most excited to see this Sunday!
