‘Good Omens’ Amazon Series Finds Its Leads: Michael Sheen And David Tennant

“Good Omens” Amazon series will star Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as the demon Crowley, Neil Gaiman confirms.

The upcoming screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Prachett’s novel Good Omens has found its two leads: the six-episode Amazon series will officially star Michael Sheen and David Tennant as the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, respectively.

(Pause for jubilatory squealing, fist pumping, and other expressions of general excitement.)

If you’re unfamiliar with the apocalyptic comedy originally published in 1990, the book centers around the End of Times, following Crowley and Aziraphale, who attempt to sabotage the apocalypse, having grown quite accustom to life among mortals in England. Not to mention, they’ve misplaced the Antichrist. There’s also a subplot involving the Four Horsemen, War, Famine, Pollution, and Death. Trust me. It’s hilarious.

Gaiman confirmed that Sheen and Tennant would star in the series on Twitter. He will pen the six episodes, and will also serve as showrunner and an executive producer.

Sheen will play for the officious, fussy angel Aziraphale. He recently starred in Masters of Sex, which ended its four-season run on Showtime last November. He also starred in Frost/Nixon, Passengers, Underworld, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

“I first read Good Omens as a teenager,” he told Variety, “and it’s been one of my favorite stories ever since. To be part of the team entrusted with bringing it alive on screen is a bit of a dream come true to be honest.”

Tennant, meanwhile will play the demon Crowley, most succinctly summed up Gaiman and Prachett in the novel: “an angel who did not Fall so much as Saunter Vaguely Downwards.” Tennant is probably most well-known for playing the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who for three seasons. He’s no stranger to villainous types, however: he recently starred in the first season of the Netflix series Jessica Jones as Marvel baddie Kilgrave.

Speaking as someone who is a huge fan of Neil Gamain, Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and the novel Good Omens, I’ve been struggling to find the words that best express just how perfect this casting is. I can’t find them. I genuinely don’t think there is any combination of syllables in the English language that could adequately convey just how exciting this is. They simply don’t exist. It’s perfect. They’re perfect. And 2018 cannot come fast enough.
