A few days ago, PopWrapped reported that Charlie Hunnam had backed out of the 50 Shades of Grey film adaptation. Leaving one very important question: who would take his place?
The casting of this movie has been among the most highly debated and speculated in recent years. There have been online campaigns, magazine features, and even a Change.org petition that was a result of the casting announcement of Mr. Hunnam and Dakota Johnson.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, there are a couple of names being bounced around to fill Hunnam’s shoes. One actor that came close to snagging the role in the first place, Jamie Dornan, appears to be the current front-runner.
If you’re a fan of Once Upon a Time, Dornan’s name may sound familiar. That is because he played sweet yet tortured Sherriff Graham (whose alter ego was the Huntsman, in the enchanted forest). The sexy and mysterious Graham was falling for Emma, and visa versa, before Regina crushed his heart in her hands in a fit of jealous rage.
Few people weren’t thrilled with the initial announcement of Hunnam portraying the complicated Christian Grey, but it seemed that people had started to wrap their heads around it. While the official excuse Hunnam provided for backing out was “a scheduling conflict,” there have been some murmurings that it was due to creative and differences with the production team. Though the creative minds behind the project thought all of these “differences” had been resolved, Hunnam clearly had a different opinion.
Christian Cooke and the blonde God Alexander Skarsgård are also being considered for the enigmatic character. The pressure is on, as a filming start-date of November 1 has already been set.
