Jennifer Aniston & Reese Witherspoon Teaming Up For A New TV Series

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are set to co-star together in a new premium TV series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Friends in real life and on screen!

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are set to co-star in a new premium TV series together, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series will focus on “morning shows and the larger New York media scene that they inhabit.” There is no title as of yet, but it will likely be a limited-run series, ala Witherspoon’s recent HBO hit, Big Little Lies (for which she’s received an Emmy nomination).

Aniston and Witherspoon will be serving as executive producers. Jay Carson, who’s worked on House of Cards, is writing the script and will also be an executive producer. The new show is currently being shopped to outlets like HBO and Netflix.

Jennifer Aniston & Reese Witherspoon: Together Again on TV

Of course, fans of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon know this won’t be the first time the two have appeared together on TV screens. In season 6 of Aniston’s seminal Friends, Witherspoon played Aniston’s little sister, Jill. The two also have maintained a friendship off-screen over the years.

Though Aniston has done a few guest spots on TV since Friends ended in 2004, including on 30 Rock and friend Courteney Cox’s Cougar Town, the project with Witherspoon will be her first significant role since playing Rachel Green. Earlier this year, she expressed her desire to return to TV work: “I’ve thought about [returning to TV] a lot. That’s where the work is. That’s where the quality is. At this point in my career, I want to be part of wonderful stories, exciting characters, and also just having a good time. When you’re in your 20s, going away from home was an adventure—meeting new people, seeing other parts of the country or world was so exciting. Now it’s really about wanting to stay closer to home and just enjoying your time. It goes really fast. The experience needs to be a good experience.”

Witherspoon has also been looking for good work, as she told Variety in January: “What is film? What is TV? What is digital? I think probably within four years, we’re not going to be talking about that anymore. It’s just content. Content is content. Because as an artist, the most important thing is you want to have work that reaches people. I don’t care how it gets to them. I don’t care if it’s in their living room, their laptop, their mobile phone—I just want them to see it.”

So far, there’s been no comment on the new show from either of the stars, but with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon teaming up at this point in their careers, it is sure to be Peak TV.
