Do you miss John Wick already? Though the second film in the franchise was released earlier this year, it seems like everyone wants more of the dog-avenging bad ass, whether it be in prequel comic form or a spin off taking place in the same world. Well, worry not Wick fans, because we can now start the unofficial countdown to the third film, as production is scheduled to begin in spring 2018.
Scheduled for release May 17th 2019, it was originally speculated that filming would begin in the fall, however it looks like this has become impossible, likely due to David Leitch wrapping things up on Deadpool 2. Nothing plot related has been revealed about the third movie, but Keanu Reeves himself did say the following at New York Comic Con:
"John Wick. John Wick's in trouble! So we've been working on it and I think we have some good ideas. Yeah, some really good ideas. But John's in trouble. Hopefully we can start shooting that next year. Chad and I thought it was hard to make a second one. And now we're like...a third one?!"
Considering how John Wick Chapter Two ended off, ‘trouble’ is a bit of an understatement. Still, it does leave room to speculate just how Wick plans to get out of the mess he’s in.
Earning $260 million dollars, the John Wick franchise is certainly a success for Lionsgate, and while a third film seems like a logical place to stop, there’s no actual word as to whether these popular action flicks will wrap things up with a trilogy. As mentioned above, there’s definitely more brewing in the mysterious world of assassins, but whether the character of John Wick will follow remains a mystery. Still, we at least have one more movie to look forward to, and personally, I can’t wait!
