Jurassic World 2 Finds Its DNA In Original Jurassic Park

Comments from Colin Trevorrow on the sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World tell us where the film will get its DNA — and we’ve heard it before!

DNA in a bit of amber — or a previous installment?

Colin Trevorrow may not be directing the next Jurassic World film, but he is still the man in the know when it comes to our favourite dinosaur franchise. He served double duty as both the director and writer of 2015’s Jurassic World, and he will still be writing the sequel, due out in June 2018.

Trevorrow has given us a clue about what to expect in the new installment, and, boy!, does it sound familiar!

Honestly, the trilogy is articulated in Jurassic Park, it’s all in there. Jurassic World is all based on Ian Malcolm’s quote, ‘You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you wanna sell it.’ That to me is Jurassic World, that’s why I had all the product placement, that’s what it was.

I’m sure all the big bucks coming in from product placements didn’t hurt, but it is interesting to hear that Trevorrow feels advertising is part of the DNA of the project. He also says that Jurassic World 2 will be on an even larger scale than this year’s installment, though he insists that it doesn’t have to mean more or bigger dinosaurs:

It’s about using this as a starting point for a much larger story about our relationship with these animals and about animals in general and the dynamic created by bringing them back to life.

Check out the interview with Trevorrow below, and let me know in the comments what you think is an ‘essential’ part of the DNA of a Jurassic film!
