‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Brings The Action But Not The Story

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are back again to save the dinosaurs, or so they think, in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are back again, but this time they’re going to save the dinosaurs or so they think, in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The first movie brought us back to the original with the magic of dinosaurs before the threat comes into play. Jurassic World ended with a full evacuation from the park, like the original, but a much bigger group of people, leaving the dinosaurs behind. Early trailers for this sequel gave it a The Lost World: Jurassic Park feel, not just because Jeff Goldblum would be reprising his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm. The last sequel to a Jurassic film did not do well so this one had some big expectations going in. Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen it.

Fallen Kingdom is, initially, about whether or not the dinosaurs on Isla Nublar should live as their home is nearing destruction from a volcano. The government bows out early on, but Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and her team are fighting for the rights of the dinosaurs. Luckily for her, John Hammond’s silent partner, Ben Lockwood (James Cromwell) agrees and invites her to help him save the dinosaurs and get them to a sanctuary he’s created. Claire still needs one thing for her journey, though, and that’s Owen (Chris Pratt) because Blue must be saved, per Eli Mills (Rafe Spall) and Owen is the only one who can find her.

We get treated with some very heartwarming videos of Owen interacting with baby Blue throughout this film, and those moments are a true highlight of this, otherwise, filler movie. Claire, Owen, and the rest of her team go to Isla Nublar where a tactical team is waiting. Long story short, much like Lost World, these guys are not there to bring the dinosaurs to a sanctuary but instead auction them off to the highest bidder. But not Blue, because she has another purpose.

We won’t give any other details away, even the extremely emotional ones, but we’ll tell you what we thought of this sequel. Fallen Kingdom has good moments, but overall it falls flat because there is too much going on. It ends with an outstanding cliffhanger which could lead to a phenomenal film, but that ending risked making this film feel like filler to get from one to the next. What did you think of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?
