Katy Perry ‘Rises’ To A Challenge On Her Embattled New Single

Katy Perry faces down on all of her doubters on her inspiration new single “Rise.” Listen to the official Olympics theme song here!

Pop music has received it’s second MASSIVE release tonight in the form of Katy Perry’s inspiring new single “Rise.”

Earlier this week we reported that pop hitmaker Katy Perry was gearing up for a musical return, and tonight (July 15) our expectations have been confirmed. Everyone’s favorite cupcake bra-wearing “Firework” has joined the likes of Britney Spears to release new music. Britney is kicking off her ninth studio album with “Make Me,” while Katy Perry is gearing up for her fourth album with “Rise.”

Whereas Spears’s “Make Me” is a lush ode to physical attraction, Katy Perry’s “Rise” is a thrilling saga that sees the songstress overcoming any barrier in her way. It’s not the diss track aimed toward Taylor Swift that some fans expected; however, it seems that the track could be applied towards her “Bad Blood” frenemy as well as anyone else who had ever doubted her.

“I won’t just survive / oh, you will see me thrive” Perry steadfastly declares in the first moments of the track. Her voice soars over a barebones production, complete with atmospheric synth and a strongly marching drum line. There is a sense of an epic journey, and Katy’s voice is entirely enthralling over the Max Martin production.

“Rise” is a powerful and inspiring release from Katy Perry. Although it isn’t the follow up that one would expect after the iridescent pop releases of 2013’s Prism, the track is nonetheless a striding declaration of independence and fierce determination.

It should come as no surprise that the track has been selected as the official song for the 2016 Olympics. With this in mine we can undoubtedly expect to hear quite a bit of the single in the coming months! It’s a good thing that it’s such a good track!

Listen to Katy Perry’s “Rise” on Apple Music or pick up a copy on iTunes.
