Kevin Feige And MCU: Black Widow Stand-Alone Film Definitely A Possibility

Kevin Feige and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have FINALLY decided it’s time to seriously talk about a Black Widow stand-alone film.

It’s the question that Marvel fans have been asking for years since she first showed up on our screens in Iron Man 2: will Black Widow ever get her own movie?

Well, thanks to Kevin Feige, producer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it looks like the answer will be a yes.

“We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow,” he said in an interview with Deadline.

Over the years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow has become one of the key characters and main members of the Avengers. She’s recently played a big part in the just released Captain America: Civil War, her fifth movie in the series.

Feige continued to praise Black Widow and Scarlett Johansson by saying, “We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.”

A franchise would allow multiple movies surrounding the character to be filmed rather than just one stand-alone film. Many fans have been hoping for a prequel film about Black Widow to be released, especially after part of her back story was revealed in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Black Widow remains one of the few female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is currently one of two females who are part of the Avengers team now that Scarlett Witch joined the team in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Marvel has recently received some heat due to lack of Black Widow merchandise despite being one of the key members of the Avengers. With the lack of female superheroes in both television and movies, having a lack of Black Widow merchandise doesn’t allow her to get the same recognition as the other members of the team.

While this movie will most likely not come out during Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can certainly hope that it’s one of the first ones we get to see during Phase Four.
