AMC’s forthcoming series Halt and Catch Fire could be joining Mad Men and Breaking Bad as the next must-see edgy drama. The trailer for the series made its debut during the March 30th season finale of The Walking Dead.
The show, starring fandom favorite Lee Pace (The Hobbit, Pushing Daisies, Guardians of the Galaxy), centers on the inside machinations of the emerging PC industry in the early ‘80s. Pace plays a former IBM executive who builds a team to try to forge their own mark on the emerging home computer boom.

While the show will delve into computer technology and engineering from the period, non-computer geeks shouldn’t worry. In a recent interview Pace confirmed that the focus will be more on hearts and minds than wires and microchips. “In the pilot I have a line that sticks out – Computers aren’t the thing. They’re the thing that gets us to the thing.”
AMC’s official synopsis reads:
“Halt and Catch Fire is set roughly one year after IBM all but corners the market with the release of its first major product – the IBM PC. In this fictional drama, a former IBM executive, Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace) plans to reverse engineer the flagship product of his former employer and forces his current company, Cardiff Electric, into the personal computer race. MacMillan enlists the help of Gordon Clark (Scoot McNairy), a once great engineer who dreams of creating a revolutionary product while trying to manage his initially unsupportive wife Donna (Kerry Bishé), and Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis), a volatile prodigy who puts her future in jeopardy to join MacMillan’s rogue PC project. Halt and Catch Fire thrives on the spirit of innovation and explores what it’s like to stand at the forefront of something world-changing and work towards it, no matter the risk.”
The series debuts on AMC June 1st at 10 pm EST. Are you excited for Halt and Catch Fire as we are? Let us know in the comments!
