If you’ve been keeping up with all of the Internet hype recently, or if you’ve just been reading our latest news about it here on PopWrapped, you will know all about LeVar Burton’s Kickstarter campaign to bring Reading Rainbow back to our silver screens!

Burton’s campaign hit over $2 million after only two days on the clock, with 33 left to go! Needless to say, Burton is very happy with the amount of support and love of learning fans are showing the show. With their help, he can bring a positive learning experience to a whole new generation of kids.

“I am overwhelmed,” Burton said of Reading Rainbow‘s milestone. The show originally ran from 1963–2006. “[Wednesday] was an amazing day and quite emotional,” he added. “To have reached our goal in roughly 11 hours was beyond our wildest imaginings. [It] proved beyond the shadow of a doubt … the importance of reading in this culture.”

As well as using the money to bring Reading Rainbow back to television, Burton wants to use his supporters’ funds (nearly 45, 000 backers at last count) to build a web presence for the show so families can interact with the lessons and tools that the show provides. The website will also give free access to classrooms, providing teaching materials for teachers in underprivileged schools.

“One of our goals for this campaign has always been universal access,” Burton wrote on Thursday. “What that means to me is on all devices where Reading Rainbow content will follow you from device to device, agnostically. From home, to school, from tablet, to laptop, to mobile — we want to create a seamless experience for our users.”
