The Orson Scott Card controversy continues as Lionsgate releases an official statement on the matter. As we reported earlier, Card, the author behind Ender’s Game, a novel that is being adapted for film by the studio, has not hidden his opposing stance on gay marriage. His point of view has brought on threats of boycotts as well as generated a considerable amount of buzz and questions surrounding Lionsgate, the film, and the associations it will have with the author in the future.
Lionsgate has stated that although they do “not agree with the personal views of Orson Scott Card,” that those views have nothing to do with the novel or adaptation being made by the studio. They also went on to say that a benefit premiere for Ender’s Game will support the LGBT community.
Time will tell whether or not the film will suffer or be supported in light of these developments. Ender’s Game is the story of Ender Wiggin, a child genius who is selected by international military forces to save the world from destruction. A release date of November 1, 2013 has been set for the U.S. with October 2013 release dates for both Australia and the United Kingdom.
