Lionsgate has decided to take on the world of digital content, with the launch of Studio L. In an announcement from Studio L Executive Vice President Seth Laderman, it was revealed that the studio is looking to target a millennial audience with Studio L, saying that “In today’s fast-changing media landscape, Lionsgate is committed to creating and distributing various types of content for next generation audiences with some of the most exciting creative voices and innovative partners in our industry.”
With this announcement came the reveal of the first projects Studio L will be working on. The first is a female-centric drama called The Honor List, which will make its debut on the new POPSUGAR Films in May. Premiering in March at South by Southwest is the dark comedy Most Likely To Murder. Finally, Chicken Girls: The Movie, an extension of the YouTube series, has been confirmed, but with no release date scheduled yet.
In addition to these larger projects, several others have been confirmed, including various series based on already existing franchises, like The Blair Witch Project, and the movie Waiting, which originally starred Ryan Reynolds and Anna Farris in 2005.
“The projects announced today signal our commitment to finding stand-out material, incubating new talent, and delivering authentic storytelling,” said Laderman in his statement. “We will also continue to cultivate and foster fresh opportunities with existing Lionsgate properties, all built around Studio L’s low-risk, high-reward distribution model.”
