James Mangold, director of The Wolverine, confirmed that the next Wolverine movie is in development. But this won’t actually begin filming until X-Men Apocalypse (which will be a sequel to X Men Days of Future Past) comes out later this year. Mangold made the announcement through twitter, in response to a fans question regarding the Wolverine franchise.

According to Bryan Singer, who’s slated to write and produce X-Men Apocalypse, the film will deal with ancient mutants from thousands of years ago. He told DigitalSpy, “Apocalypse will have more of the mass destruction that X-Men films, to date, have not relied upon. There’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle.”

Comic fans may realize the connection to the name Apocalypse with an ancient and extremely powerful mutant enemy, if not one of the most powerful adversaries of the team. Are you excited for the current plans for the X-Men franchise?
