What happens when you take a zombie hunter, a British secret service agent, a Jane Austen expert, and mix them all together for a feature film?
Well, an anti-terrorist thriller of course.
Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil), Pierce Brosnan (James Bond) and Emma Thompson (Sense & Sensibility) are set to star in director James McTeigue’s (V for Vendetta) thriller called Survivor. Angela Bassett is also slated to co-star in the film.
According to Deadline, “Jovovich plays a State Department employee newly posted to the American embassy in London, where she is charged with stopping terrorists from getting into the U.S. That puts her right in the line of fire and she is targeted for death and framed for crimes. Discredited, she is forced to go on the run while she tries to clear her name and stop a large-scale terrorist attack set for New Year’s Eve in Times Square.”
When I first read over the project, I couldn’t help but draw some parallels to Salt (starring Angelina Jolie). And no, it’s not because they both start with “S.” Maybe it’s just the female lead, kickbutting a group of terrorists. Which eventually culminates with her risking her life (maybe even getting punched or scraped) but, of course, saving the day.
However, I enjoyed Salt, and I’m sure I will also enjoy Survivor. Predictable as it may be, it will also likely be entertaining.
The film will start shooting in London early next year.
