In a move that does not surprise anyone at all. Streaming service Netflix has conducted a study to analyze the viewing habits of its audience. Netflix released its findings this Wednesday.
So how long does it really take for the Average Joe and Jane to finish one season of a show?
According to Netlfix, not long at all.
The average subscriber can usually finish the first season of a show within a week. But of course, again, that is not surprising for any of us. Despite hectic schedules we can always squeeze in time for our favorite shows, all we have to do is sacrifice sleep.
The interesting thing about this study is that it was able to categorize the different levels of viewing habits and which show genre was consumed the fastest.
“After three years of studying original series releases and nine years of streaming over all, we can now identify some patterns, finally,” Netflix Vice President for Content, Cindy Holland said.
And it appears that Sci-fi and Horror are the ones that are viewed within the fastest time frame, while political and historical dramas take longer.
These are the levels by which binge-watchers are categorized, the time it takes them to finish one season, and which genre falls into such level.

The study is based on Netflix tracking its subscribers all over the world. It tracked how they would view the first season of a show they watched, out of the available one hundred television series Netflix offers. The study was conducted over a seven month period.
The habits of the viewers who were not able to finish an entire season are not included. Subsequent seasons were also not part of the study, but according to Cindy Holland, “The general trend we noticed is that subsequent seasons are consumed even faster than the preceding seasons.”
