Black Mass looks to be an intriguing film. The mobster thriller starring Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger shows that, if you take away the daft voices and OTT costumes, Depp is a fine actor. I love him as Cap’n Jack, by the way, it’s just easy to forget he doesn’t just do family movies. And this doesn’t look like a family movie.
This second trailer gives us a slightly different look at the character. He’s seen chatting to his son, with his partner despairing as he tries to teach the lad the ways of the gangster, and a rather funny scene where a little old lady pats his cheek and tells him it’s good to have him back in the neighbourhood after his little stint in Alcatraz.
He’s still intimidating, scowly and shooting at people, but perhaps there will be lightness to help the story along.
Black Mass, which also boasts Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson, Joel Edgerton, Kevin Bacon, Adam Scot, and Corey Stoll in its cast, will debut September 18th.
