Grab your wands and the nearest portkey – we’re heading to New York! Well, Eddie Redmayne is, anyway. In the newest movie poster for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Redmayne’s Newt Scamander is seen standing on a crumbling wall as he surveys New York City.

New York is the central location for this newest wizarding world installation. Penned by JK Rowling herself, the movie invites us to an all-new corner of the wizarding world previously only available to us in fan fiction (here’s looking at you, G. Norman Lippert) and occasional references within the original series (though not many).
The film already has a ton of hype, and its Twitter page has been blowing up since the project was announced. Fans from all over the world have posted pictures of magical daring and courageous poses, tagged with their country’s translation of #FantasticBeasts.

Set in 1920s New York, Fantastic Beasts takes place a few decades before the Golden Trio teamed up to search for the Sorcerer’s Stone, and well before the final horcruxes were created.
That is, 70 years before any of our favorite stuff ever happened.
The movie follows the magizoologist Newt Scamander, author of the Hogwarts textbook. Unfortunately, in order to get most of the material for said textbook, Scamander had to venture all over the world and bring some of these fantastic beasts in his briefcase.
You know, that Mary Poppins/Time Lord technology case he’s always carrying around.
Fantastic Beasts is the first of three potential movies chronicling Scamander’s whacky adventures. So far, Rowling will be writing the scripts for all of them, just as she wrote the stage play for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Fantastic Beasts is set to apparate into theaters November 18, 2016. You can catch up on all the movie news on Pottermore and the Fantastic Beasts website.
