What do Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt have in common? Not only are they all extremely talented musicians, but come April 10, 2014, they can all add Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee to their resumes.

To be eligible for the induction, the artists first single or album must be have been released at least 25 years ago, and with Nirvana’s debut single “Love Buzz” being released in 1998, they become members of an exclusive club to be inducted in their first year of eligibility.

“That’s really no surprise to me, People see the relevancy of that band.” Rock and Roll Hall of Fame President and CEO Joel Peresman said.

In a statement made by Dave Grohl he said “For once… I’m speechless.” Adding “From the basements, to the dingy clubs, to the broken down vans, to… the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I’d like to thank the committee not only for this induction, but also for recognizing Nirvana for what we were: pure rock and roll. Most of all, thank you to all of the fans that have supported rock and roll throughout the years, and to Kurt and Krist, without whom I would not be here today.”

Krist Novoselic then added his own sentiments “This is a great honor. Thank you to the people who nominated and voted for us. Thank you most of all to Kurt Cobain. And to everyone who’s kept Rock music going strong for 60 years and counting.”

John Oats spoke with Billboard about his induction saying “I will be there with bells on. I’m dusting off my suit, man. I felt that the Rock Hall, the powers that be, had a point of view and that we didn’t fit into that point of view and it didn’t bother me because if that’s how it is, that’s how it is. I kept saying, ‘If it happens it happens, and if it does it’s going to be great.’ So I’m really going to enjoy it and I think it’s a great class, so to speak.”

Peter Gabriel who was inducted as a member of Genesis back in 2010 told Rolling Stone “I’m very grateful to have gotten in again. It’s a huge honor since it’s for your whole body of work and not just a specific project.”

In his statement, Cat Stevens (also known as Yusaf Islam) said “It will certainly bring happiness to a lot of my loyal fans,” he said in a statement. “And fulfillment to all those who have long-campaigned for it, not to mention how kinda embarrassingly good it makes me feel too. The sleepy Peace Train is beginning to chug its way slowly uphill, again.”

Linda Ronstadt unfortunately most likely will miss the ceremony due to ill health “It’s most likely I that I won’t be able to make it to New York in April. Travel is very difficult for me.” She said in reference to her announcement earlier in the year that she is battling Parkinson’s Disease.

And as for Kiss, well, after being eligible for nomination for 15 years and countless number of fan protests at their absence, they too join the class of 2014 inductees. However, not all founding members of the band may be in attendance at the ceremony. Gene Simmons recently said that Ace Frehley and Peter Criss would not be invited to join them. “How many chances in life to do you get?” he said. “Those guys had three chances to be in the band. Three times they fucked it up. When you have a cancer in your system, it’s best to cut it out as fast as you can.”

Or will they? It seems Simmons has been a bit contradictory in his statements regarding the induction, telling Rolling Stone that he’s open to the idea of reuniting with Frehley and Criss “They were equally important in the formation of the band” I guess we’ll just have to wait and see who takes the stage alongside Simmons to accept the accolade.

The 2014 Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will take place on April 10 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and will be broadcast by HBO in May.
