Twenty-two-year-old Miss Colombia, Paulina Vega, has been crowned as the latest Miss Universe. She bested 88 other contestants in a ceremony held in Miami, Florida on Sunday night.

Paulina Vega is the grand daughter of Tenor, Gaston Vega. She is a student of Business Administration.

Miss USA, Nia Sanchez, was First Runner-Up, followed by Second Runner-Up, Miss Ukraine, Diana Harkusha , Third Runner-Up Miss Netherlands, Yasmin Verheijen, and Fourth Runner-Up Miss Jamaica, Kaci Fennel.

The loss of crowd favorite Miss Jamaica to Colombia was controversial. The audience erupted into boos when Jamaica was named fourth runner up. The hashtag #MissJamaicaShouldHaveWon trended on twitter soon after.

The ceremony was hosted by Natalie Morales with celebrity performance featuring Nick Jonas, Prince Royce and Gavin de Graw.

Paulina Vega is the first Miss Universe to wear a newly designed crown.
