The Pop 4 Beauty Trends From The 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards

What four fashion takeaways came from this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards? Be sure to check out what makes our list and who did it best!

Earlier this week, I wrote about who made this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards best-dressed list and, while I do believe that finding a great dress or wearing some great jewelry help make a person, sometimes the best accessory is yourself.

With the beauty industry consistently changing from trend to trend each year, here are the best four trends from the Critics’ Choice red carpet.

1. BOLD LIPS

It might be time to put aside your favorite matte brown lipstick — berry lips are in, and you don’t have to wait for spring to jump on the bandwagon.

In the photo above, actress Rachel McAdams chose to match hers with a similarly-colored Elie Saab gown with Graziela Gems. In addition, a bright lip looks just as exceptional with black, like the Cushnie et Ochs gown Liv Tyler wore below.

On the other hand, Kristen Dunst (above) wore her wine-colored lip with a Chanel Couture dress, making it acceptable to wear any shade of berry with lighter hues.

In order to achieve their look, you want to keep everything to a minimum, meaning that your makeup, your outfit, and your accessories shouldn’t be trying to grab the spotlight. These shades are known to be eye-catching, so just let your lips do all the talking.

2. NUDE LIPS

Although it is the opposite of their brighter and darker cousins, nude continues to be a favorite among those who grace the carpet. This year’s Critics’ Choice Awards is no exception with Bryce Dallas Howard (above) and Saoirse Ronan (below) rocking the nude.

What’s fantastic about nude shades is that they compliment your overall look — unlike their cousins — making them extra versatile. You can pretty much do anything with them.

3. DEWY SKIN

The harsh, cold weather has nothing to do with it — well, for the most part. Having dewy skin gives off a natural glow, making you appear younger and healthier. When going for this look, you can go for full coverage like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (above) or partially like Jennifer Aniston (below).

Moisturizing is the key to getting the perfect glow. What I like to do is add a moisturizer after I wash my face in the morning, under my foundation, and before I sleep.

If you happen to forget, use a shimmery eyeshadow or a highlight and mark the apples of your cheeks, forehead, nose, and on your chin.

4. SULTRY EYES

Like the berry lip, this one demands total attention on the eyes. Ranging from cat eyes to smokey makeup, the possibilities are endless.

For example, Mad Max actress Abbey Lee Kreshaw has two of the most gorgeous green eyes I have ever seen. The use of a cat eye brings them out even more. Others who utilized this look are Luciana Barroso (pictured with husband Matt Damon below) and Krysten Ritter, also below.

In imitating this look, make sure you have your best form of eyeliner or use similar shades of eyeshadow. Next, draw and smudge away!
