In the latest Ukraine/Russia saga, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered thousands of stationed troops that have been near the Ukrainian border to pull back and return to their bases.
Currently, there are over 17,000 troops near the border. Putin had previously announced that he had withdrawn the troops, but reports from both the US and NATO showed that this was false. Since then, Russia has been dealing with accusations that they are supplying weapons and in some cases, troops, to the separatists in eastern Ukraine. Russia denies these claims.
The current withdraw order has come right before a meeting that is planned for Friday between Putin and the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko. Though a truce was declared on September 5th, fighting has continued.
If the two leaders are unable to come to a conclusion, Ukraine could be facing a very hard winter as Russia has cut off gas supplies to the Ukrainian people. Russia claims that Ukraine has not paid debts owed to Russia.
