‘Ready Player One’ New Trailer Talk

After Steven Spielberg’s The Post, Ready Player One is not far behind. Check out the first official trailer here!

The latest drama from the great Steven Spielberg will be starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep and called The Post (2017), hitting theaters on January 12, 2018, but that’s not the only movie coming from Steven Spielberg that we have to look forward to. Ready Player One (2018), based off of the novel of the same name by Ernest Cline, dropped its first teaser a few months ago at Comic-Con that certainly whet our appetites, but the first official trailer recently appeared and it has gotten us even more amped up than before!

Ready Player One certainly looks to be taking Steven Spielberg back to his more “magical” roots, seeming to be almost in the vein of films like E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), although of course much more up to date in the technological advances aspect. Tye Sheridan plays Wade Watts in the year 2045, where he feels his only escape and purpose is in the virtual reality world of the “Oasis.” The video game-esque visuals look stunning, something akin to what you might see in films like The Adventures of Tintin (2011), The BFG (2016), or Disney’s TRON: Legacy (2010). It without a doubt looks to be a fantastic thrill ride that will suck the audience into its world, and maybe, just maybe be a peer to Avatar‘s (2009) wonder if released in 3D (how could it not). Like the teaser before it, we again see glimpses of various “easter egg” characters or devices, namely The Iron Giant, and the DeLorean from Back to the Future (1985). Super Spielberg and Back to the Future fans will even recognize the little musical theme at the end of this trailer. Van Halen’s “Jump” really gets us into the classic ’80s mood, with it still feeling a futuristic vibe.

Ready Player One will star Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)), Olivia Cooke (Ouija (2014)), Simon Pegg (Star Trek: Beyond (2016)), T.J. Miller (Office Christmas Party (2016)), Hannah John-Kamen (Game of Thrones (2011-)), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)), and Mark Rylance (Dunkirk (2017), and downloads into theaters next spring on March 30, 2018.
