Popular comedic actor Robin Williams has checked himself into rehab, but to ensure he remains sober rather than relapsing.
After 18 months of continuous work, Williams is taking a much needed break from the spotlight, and taking the opportunity to ensure he is completely focused on remaining sober. His representative explained why in a statement to People:
“After working back-to-back projects, Robin is simply taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud.”
Williams had been sober for 20 years after he fell off the wagon in 2005 whilst filming The Big White. He later sought help for alcohol addiction in 2006.
It is believed that he intends to stay in the treatment centre for several weeks.
