National embarrassment Sarah Palin is back in the headlines after a cryptic Facebook message announcing that the wedding of her daughter Bristol would no longer take place this week.

Palin posted a motivational quote about “trusting in God’s timing” and stated that the wedding would not be held on May 23 in Kentucky as scheduled:

Palin added that the families of the couple would still be “getting together for a great bar-b-que” that day, but the former Alaska governor neglected to mention why the festivities would not include the planned nuptials.

The younger Palin’s engagement has already been fraught with the usual controversy that surrounds the family. Bristol’s fiance, Dakota Meyer, actually seems like a great catch. The ex-Marine is a decorated war hero who received the Medal of Honor in 2011. But recently rumors began to circulate that Meyer was already married.

Bristol responded to the accusations with the statement:

“Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency.”

The former Dancing With The Stars contestant was previously engaged to Levi Johnston. Bristol gave birth to Johnston’s son, Tripp, at the age of 18 and the couple split shortly after. The two are still at war over custody issues to this day. Bristol Palin has also been widely criticized for her role as an abstinence advocate following her own teenage pregnancy.

Remember, folks, this is the cast of characters who could have been our Vice Presidential family. Let’s all breathe a sigh of relief that we dodged that bullet.
