There was some devastating news released earlier this week, when it was revealed that a stuntwoman passed away during the filming of Deadpool 2.

A little after initial reports, the woman's name has been released. Her name was Joi "SJ" Harris and it would appear that she was the stunt double of actress Zazie Beetz, who is playing the character of Domino in the film. The accident occurred during the filming of a motorcycle scene in which no helmet was used.

Vancouver Police confirm accident on Deadpool 2 set

“Vancouver Police can confirm that a female stunt driver has died on the set of Deadpool during a stunt on a motorcycle,” the Vancouver police confirmed after the incident, “VPD officers are at the scene, along with officers from WorkSafeBC. More information will be released when it is available.”

Though this was reportedly Harris' first film stunt performance, she had rehearsed the stunt several times before the accident, had practiced all of Saturday, and ran through the stunt at least five times before the accident. Due to the lack of helmet, BC Coroner’s Service and WorkSafeBC have opened an investigation on the Deadpool 2 set to ensure that further accidents can be prevented.

"We have five officers on site and two are looking at immediate occupational safety and health issues to make sure the site is safe,” said Senior manager of WorkSafeBC, Trish Knight Chernecki. “The other three officers on site are investigating the cause of the incident and the prevention of future incidents.”

Deadpool 2 Star Ryan Reynolds also released a statement on Twitter about the tragic accident, saying that the entire cast and crew are devastated by the loss but know that this comes nowhere near to what family and friends must be feeling in the wake of her passing.
