With the Divergent sequel, Insurgent, still in shooting stages, Summit has officially hired a screenwriter for the anticipated final adaptation of the book-to-movie series, Allegiant.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Noah Oppenheim has been hired by Summit to write the first half of the film adaptation of Allegiant. It is being split into two feature films. This follows the format of Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Twlight, which have all split their final books into two feature films.
Oppenheim recently wrote the film adaptation of The Maze Runner by James Dashner, starring Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf), Thomas Sangster (Game of Thrones), Kaya Scodelario (Skins) and Will Poulter (We’re the Millers), which will come out this September. He will work on the screenplay while filming for Insurgent continues.
The Divergent series, written by Veronica Roth, is set to debut its films Allegiant: Part 1 on March 18th, 2016 and Allegiant: Part 2 on March 24th, 2017.
Insurgent is set to come out on March 20, 2015.
