If the title “New York Fashion Week” didn’t give you enough reasons to want to go this year, then we have another one for you to go - Janelle Monáe. For those who don’t know who this amazing lady is then you need to visit New York Fashion Week for yourself, because you are definitely missing out.

Monáe is an up and coming artist, singer, songwriter, producer, and trendsetter. All of these factors have led Monáe to be one of the most unique mainstream musicians America has seen in years. Monáe has gained near-universally positive critical reception over the past few years, and it looks like her rise to fame may finally earn her the clout she deserves.

Before Monáe releases her upcoming album, The Electric Lady, she’s going to get us geared up for New York Fashion Week. The R&B musician is set to perform live at the Lincoln Center as part of the “American Express Unstaged” - a program that pairs artists from different genres with renowned directors to collaborate and share their work through digital media. Monáe will perform live as models walk as part of Rebecca Minkoff’s Fashion Week runway show, which will be showing off Minkoff spring 2014 collection. It is scheduled to take place on Friday.

The musician and the designer will also be sharing behind-the-scenes prep shots via Instagram with backstage cameras and live photo feed which will be giving fans at home unprecedented instant access. Knowing how crowded the real-life shows can get, computer viewers might just be better off staying where they are, since they usually end up with the best seat in the house.

Looks like the show will be electric for these ladies; we just hope it doesn’t cause a blackout of NYC!
